Device 9F2A is a Paradrag Device designed to acquaint pilots and Aircrew with problems that may be encountered should they be forced to parachute over water. The device increases the trainee's knowledge of the fundamentals of maintaining stability in the water and skills in releasing from a parachute harness while being dragged through the water by a wind-blown parachute. The device is designed for installation at a variety of sites, from indoor or outdoor pools of alater including lakes and the ocean.
Device 9F2A consists of a main tower, a support tower, and a cable run and harness assembly. The main tower is a 15-foot pyramid with an 8-foot square base. The tower is constructed of 2 1/2-inch aluminum angle. A platform and access ladder is attached to the tower. Two guy wires, attached to the top of the tower and to two anchoring structures at the rear of the tower, aid in supporting the tower.
Device 9F2A was developed by the Naval Training Equipment Center (now designated Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems Division). There are a total of five (5) 9F2A devices in operation. Serial number 8 is in storage at Whidbey Island until f.
