The Information System Administrator Laboratory provides systems administrator's with the basic skills and knowledge needed to administer a computer network onboard a submarine. The trainer's main focus is on the following functional areas: (1) Configuration Management through the additions and deletions of network system configuration. (2) System Management through the administration of network services, maintaining user accounts, access rights and directory services. (3) Maintaining system reliability, statistics, and performance checking of system communication pathways as well as optimization of system and application performance.
The ISA trainer is comprised entirely of Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) equipment. The trainer consists of one Instructor Station and sixteen Student Stations. The major components of the Instructor Station are a Gateway E4200 server and a Gateway PIII 500 MHz CPU Instructor Work Station. The Instructor Station also contains a Proxima 9250 desktop projector. Each of the sixteen student stations consists of a Gateway PIII 500 MHz CPU with color monitor, keyboard, and a mouse. Total system integration is accomplished via Ethernet and four Netgear hubs. The hubs allow the trainer to be configured as three separate networks to provide the required System Administrator training.
