The Shallow Water Test Facility (SWTF) consists of a 60,000 gallon capacity cylindrical steel tank, 12 feet deep and 30 feet in diameter. A wooden deck 12 feet high surrounds the tank on three sides and is used as a maintenance and operation platform. Mounted on the deck at various locations are electrical, fresh water, and low pressure air outlets. A 5 ton lifting capacity Yale crane is mounted on a 30 ft. high bridge. In addition, a catwalk over the tank allows for personnel access over the top of the tank.
For over 20 years, the NFESC engineers and technicians have been improving diver’s underwater tools by expanding their applications and enhancing their reliability. The SWTF allows testing and evaluation of experimental and prototype tools, equipment and techniques in a controlled seawater environment.
