The G-VIS Lab, NASA Glenn's advanced graphics and visualization laboratory, supports and develops scientific visualization techniques and provides the Center's researchers with access to leading edge visualization technologies and expertise. The equipment housed in the GVIS lab includes computer-to-video converters, video digitizing, HDTV (High-Definition Television). The HDTV includes a monitor, video tape recorder, a video disk recorder, a large screen display, and a specially-equipped SGI workstation. This system allows scientists to study time-dependent phenomena through animation that, unlike standard NTSC-based video, retains the full color, detail, and resolution of the images displayed on their graphics workstations. The resolution of the high-definition images is 1920x1035 pixels, more than six times the resolution of standard TV. |
